STRONG READERS ACT
The Oklahoma Strong Readers Act is dedicated to ensuring the every child receives the support they need to build strong reading skills from an early age. At RISE STEAM Academy we believe literacy is the foundation for all learning and success, both in school and beyond. To support this, we provide high-quality, research-based reading instruction, early interventions, and ongoing progress monitoring to meet students' individual needs. By partnering with families and fostering a love of reading in every classroom, we are dedicated to equipping all students with the skills they need to read fluently, think critically, and thrive academically.
To ensure that all of our students become proficient readers, our district has implemented a board policy in accordance with the Strong Readers Act,70 O.S. § 1210.508C.
The Act requires that all students in kindergarten through third grade are screened for reading skills three times a year. If a student shows a reading deficiency, they will receive an individual reading intervention plan. This plan includes explicit instruction, progress monitoring, and ongoing support to meet grade-level reading targets.
